Aluminium 2014 channels have 4.4% copper, 0.8% manganese, 0.5% magnesium, and iron and silicon in small percentages. This composition produces high mechanical strength with tensile strengths of 400–500 MPa. The alloy is heat-treatable and will respond effectively to solution treatment and artificial aging. The alloy is less corrosion-resistant than purer grades, but surface protection or anodizing can be used to improve performance. The material is good for good machinability and fatigue resistance and is ideal for components to be subjected to cyclic loading or severe wear.
