Aluminium 2024 has 3.8–4.9% copper, 1.2–1.8% magnesium, 0.3–0.9% manganese, and small quantities of iron, silicon, and zinc. It provides tensile strength of 400–490 MPa, yield strength of approximately 230–400 MPa, and Brinell hardness of 120–150 HB. Corrosion resistance is moderate but mechanical strength and fatigue resistance are excellent. The alloy can be heat-treated to deliver better performance in aerospace-grade tempers like T3 and T4.
