Aluminium 5082 has magnesium (4.0–4.9%), manganese (0.4–1.0%), and chromium (0.05–0.25%), with trace silicon, iron, and copper. It provides tensile strength of 275–350 MPa and yield strength of 125–200 MPa, depending on temper, with acceptable elongation values. The Brinell hardness of the alloy is around 75–95 HB. Non-heat-treatable, it develops strength via strain hardening. Aluminium 5082 retains outstanding corrosion resistance in saltwater and industrial environmentsas well as good weldability, and is a sound choice for critical structural use.
